Living in one of the last military bases of a hedonistic French military group in 1970s Madagascar, 10-year-old Thomas gradually discovers that the surface of his family’s blissful life on the idyllic island is cracking. Inspired by the comic book hero Fantomet, Thomas spies on those around him and discovers the hidden, intertwined political and sexual lives of colonizers and colonized. As his move approaches, Thomas wonders whether the memories he’s made are even worth cherishing.
